NOSE SHOP FUKUOKA

The Interior design of NOSE SHOP FUKUOKA, which exclusively sells niche fragrances.

Inspired by the podcast ”NOSE knows,” hosted by Tomonobu Nakamori, the CEO of NOSE SHOP Inc., which attempts to ”verbalize fragrances,” we took on the challenge of visualizing the fragrances in the store space. Since fragrances gives different impressions depending on the season, weather, physical condition and mood, we turned our attention to materials as a way to visualize them. Although many of the ingredients used to create perfumes are known, the impression of the perfumes differs depending on the combinations of the ingredients. Hence, we thought it would be possible to create a fresh impression by combining known materials such as the ones that are usually used as substrate materials in interior design. The top board is made of multiple layers of materials, following the multi-layered composition of the perfumes’ top, body and base notes. This gives the impression of reflection or fluctuation depending on the viewing angle. We also used cement boards for the side parts of the fixtures and pillar shelves to create a nuanced expression while creating the background that complements the attractive perfumes. Also, since this is NOSE SHOP’s first store in Fukuoka, we thought it would be possible to incorporate the charm of a place near the waterside and nature, even though it is in the city. While the texture is urban, we designed the fixtures, such as the top board and the shape that are reminiscent of a water surface and mountains or rocks, respectively. The rectangular shape with rounded corners enhances the ease of walking around, making it more comfortable for the customers so that they can stay longer at the store.
